چکیده

Introduction Breast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is finding wider application in the clinical management of breast cancer and both the technology and performance standards for breast MRI continue to improve. In 2003, the American College of Radiology (ACR) added MRI and ultrasound to its publication of the ACR BIRADS Breast Imaging Reporting and Data System [1], providing guidelines for performing and interpreting breast MRI. Developments in breast coil technology, biopsy equipment and CAD systems are all contributing to improved utilization of breast MRI. In the following review, we discuss the technical aspects of breast MRI and consider some of the clinical indications that are emerging.

Indications for Breast MRI Magnetic Resonance Imaging, or MRI, is a painless way to look inside the body and provide your doctor with specific information about certain areas of your body. MRI utilizes a combination of a magnetic field, radio waves, and computer processing to derive images. In certain cases, BREAST MRI can provide additional information about your breast structure which may not...

Comparison between MRS and DWI in MRI of breast cancer

Introduction: Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women and is the second leading cause of cancer death (after lung cancer) in people throughout the world. Today, MRI is being used because of the limitations of x-ray mammography to detect breast cancer. Non-contrast sequences were associated to CE sequences in a breast MRI protocol for the sake of appraising morphologic ...

MRI-Guided Intervention for Breast Lesions Using the Freehand Technique in a 3.0-T Closed-Bore MRI Scanner: Feasibility and Initial Results

OBJECTIVE To report the feasibility of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-guided intervention for diagnosing suspicious breast lesions detectable by MRI only, using the freehand technique with a 3.0-T closed-bore MRI scanner. MATERIALS AND METHODS Five women with 5 consecutive MRI-only breast lesions underwent MRI-guided intervention: 3 underwent MRI-guided needle localization and 2, MRI-guided...

Optimizing Flip Angle Selection in Breast MRI for Accurate Extraction and Visualization of T1 Tissue Relaxation Time

Contrast enhanced MRI is a popular diagnostic technique for characterizing angiogenesis and detecting breast cancer. Though conventionally measured relative signal enhancement (RSE) is not linearly proportional to contrast agent concentration, relative enhancement of T1 tissue relaxation time is. Therefore, measurement of T1 using low flip angle acquisitions is essential for characterizing tumo...

Breast cancer imaging: a new role of Tc-99m sestamibi prone scintimammography for diagnosisof breast cancer

Mammography remians the procedure of choice in screening asymptomatic women for breast cancer. However, in patients with symptoms, other types of imaging play an important role in the detection of malignancies. The high cost and lack of availability of PET and MRI largely precludes the use in this patient population. TI-201 is nbt the imaging agent of choice because of its wash-out and redistri...
